FAQ's

How the Rankings Are Determined

  1. How are the rankings determined?
Our rankings are based on a comprehensive evaluation of:

    • Team performance metrics: win-loss records, strength of schedule, goal differential, and head-to-head matchups.
    • Player evaluation: A specialized metric evaluates the skill and talent of individual players, contributing to the team’s overall ranking.
    • Consistency and competition: Teams’ performances against highly ranked opponents and their overall consistency throughout the season.
  2. How are your rankings different or better than others?
    • We stand out by watching every team we rank play, ensuring a hands-on approach.
    • This allows us to assess not only statistics but also qualitative factors like coaching style, team structure, and overall game strategy.
    • Our direct observations provide unique insights into on-ice dynamics, adaptability, and teamwork.
  3. What data sources do you use?
    • We use official league statistics, tournament results, and other trusted sources to track team performance throughout the season, ensuring accurate and up-to-date rankings.
  4. Do you take individual player performance into account?
    • While our rankings primarily focus on team performance, individual contributions are factored in, especially when they significantly influence a team’s success. However, rankings are team-based and not intended to evaluate individual players.
  5. Can teams request a review of their ranking?
    • Yes, teams can contact us if they believe their ranking doesn’t reflect their recent performance. Upon review, rankings may be adjusted based on updated information.

Additional Details About Our Rankings

  1. What is your criteria for including teams in the rankings?
    • We rank Tier 1 Ontario teams that actively participate in league or tournament play.
    • Note: This is Year 1 of our rankings. Starting next season, USA teams will also be included.
  2. What games are included in team records?
    • Records include results from tournament games, league games, and exhibition games to capture all competitive play.

How Does the Sum of Player Rankings Work?

  1. Game Evaluation: We watch a team play and identify the players who stand out the most in that specific game.
  2. Player Scoring: Each standout player receives a score based on our proprietary in-house scale.
  3. Ranking Calculation: The individual scores are totaled to create the team’s overall Sum of Player Rankings.
  4. What is the “Rating/Stars” system?
    • This metric combines detailed player analysis and scouting to assess the overall skill and talent on each team. It reflects how individual contributions enhance the team’s performance.
  5. What is the time frame for rankings?

Rankings are based on games and viewings from August 27 to November 12. Future updates will cover ongoing performances.
